Good luck, Mr. President!

I know that not all of you voted for Mr. Obama, but I am compelled to give the man I pulled the lever for a shout out on the day of his Inauguration. Regardless of political leanings, I think we all can agree that this is a momentous event in our history. I'll save my yapping about 24 and brilliance of Kristen Wiig for tomorrow. For today, I just wanna say, HELLOOOOO MISTA PRESIDENT, HOW YOUUUU DOIN'?!

Captain Sully Rocks!

Here he is, Captain Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger III, hero of yesterday's emergency plane landing in the Hudson River. Here's the Associated Press article that provides some background on this quick thinking pilot. He, his co-pilot Jeff Skiles, some kick ass flight attendants and rescuers from all over the damn place warmed my weary old NY heart with their heroics. So, cheers to them...it's nice when happy endings occur in real life.

In other less life-altering news, I finished watchingAmerican Idol's 3,000 hour premiere. Its length was quite unnecessary. They could've edited the Arizona and Kansas auditions down to an hour for each city, no prob. Supposedly viewership is down. Could it be because the show is becoming more and more staged and contrived? AI was fun in the beginning because the crazies were a bit more unexpected and producers had no hype and product placement to deal with. Oh well, it's to be expected, I guess. In any case, I watched the whole damn thing and have started a list of predictions which will be revised each week on the bulletin board.

I am headed to the Condé Nast cafeteria today for lunch with Gerri and Jen. I haven't been back to the "bitch building," as one of my other friends so subtly terms it, since I left Brides in 2004. Should be interesting. I'm trying to decide what clothing ensemble of mine would be most offensive to the fashionistas so I can be sure to provoke glares. I probably won't figure it out until I get in the shower, though, because that is where I make all of my decisions. (Seriously.)

It's Friday, people! Smile! And Liz, if you happen to be reading, Love ya and Happy Birthday!!!! -h

These are my "peers"?

As most of you already know (thanks to my endless Facebook status updates), I embraced my civic responsibility and reported to jury duty yesterday. Despite the fact that I was at Dram on Tuesday night until all hours downing vodka in various forms and only had 3.5 hours of sleep, I managed to wake up at 7am relatively unscathed and made my way to the dank, unnecessarily bright room on Thomas street by 8:45am. (Wow, that's a long sentence.)

It was a very uneventful day of sitting and waiting...of being hot, and being cold...of hearing chatty pigeons purring on the window sill and enduring wafts of really bad aftershave. It was a day where people didn't feel weird about making prolonged yawn/stretching noises in a roomful of strangers, nor did they think it annoying to repeatedly clack clack clack in their heels (multiple times) allllll the way up to the clerk's desk to ask a question he already answered 10 times before. If these are my "peers," I'll take my chances being bound and thrown into a lake to determine my innocence if I'm ever in a pickle.

Where does the phrase "in a pickle" come from? Maybe I'll suggest it to Alexis for Whatever's word(s) of the week segment. In any case, I'll find out because now I have probably piqued all of your interests. Yes, all 3 of you regular readers are dying to know where that phrase comes from. Don't deny it, don't even try it. Speaking of Whatever, Jennifer and Alexis got Rosie O'Donnell to come on the show for 2 whole hours on Monday. It was fun radio. If you wanna see producer Chrissy's fabulous transcript of the show, click here.

In other news, TV shows are back from hiatus or starting to premiere. What are you kids watching? 24 is as contrived as ever, but I love it as usual. I am a sucker for gun wielding field agents...especially kick ass Agent Walker. Privileged is one of my guilty pleasures. (It's well cast and sharply written for bubblegum fare, truly.) Ellen and I have yet to sit down and watch last week's 30 Rock and Ugly Betty, but I am looking forward to it. (Yes, I am a loser.) And, of course, there is American Idol, the guiltiest pleasure of them all. There is a new judge, it seems? What's the deal with that? Talk more TV on my bulletin board people. Participate in the process. Do your civic duty or you are d.e.d. (That's dead, for you educated, literate types.) Or maybe I'll lock you in a room with your "peers" for seven hours. Yeah, that.

I gotta go. I am soooooooo frickin tired and I've got nothing to show for it. Perhaps I'll be motivated to start on my sitcom idea tomorrow. Perhaps not. Tune in later to find out. Or just check Facebook at any point in the day. I'm sure that in between telling everyone what I ate for lunch and whether I parted my hair to the left or to the right there will be something about my inability to focus and/or write something meaningful/good.-h

p.s. Shout out to Paul, whose birthday was Monday! Thank you, BFF and Vic for the yummy steak and wine. Can't wait to test drive that TV with y'all. Is the living room DVR hooked up yet? 42-inch midgets, Vicky! A dreamy paradox.

Golden globules of beer grime

Hey, all. It's Mooooonday and by the time most of you read this you'll have already started your day. It's 2:15ish a.m. right now and I have decided to write an entry before washing off my beer grime and calling it a night. It'll be a short one because I really don't have anything to say. I've learned that people stop checking in on websites that are dead for months on end (it's like you have better things to do or something), so I'm doing the thing I hate most - talking when I have nothing to say. (Ha! Who am I kidding? I love blabbing about nothing! It's funny because I really thought I meant that when I typed it and then I reread it and laughed my ass off.)

So, Kate Winslet and Slumdog Millionaire were big Golden Globe winners, it seems. Good. I think both are very deserving. Colin Farrell, on the other hand... Dunno what that was about but I didn't see the movie, so I'll refrain from saying WHAT THE WHAAAAAAT? Or not. Was at Dram watching them with the crew when Kate won her award. Holy crap she was surprised! It's nice when celebs actually seem/are sincere. On the other hand, Steven Spielberg was all kinds of happy with himself when he accepted his lifetime achievement award (I'm assuming that's what he accepted - the sound was off). Snore. My favorite Spielberg film was released when I was five, so it's kind of been all downhill from there for me as far as he is concerned. Anyway, I'm breaking my rule re: discussing celebrities for more than 40 seconds, so I'll stop.

Enjoy your day. Oh, and register on my new bulletin board if you haven't already!

P.S. Sorry about the game, Giants fans (especially you, Ellen). But congrats to all of my Philly fan friends. Although, really, does your state have to win every major sporting title this year?

2009 Revamp

Hello kids! It's been a long time. I haven't blogged since the end of August! I partly blame Facebook for this. I mean, let's FACE it, that website is cybercrack. It robs people of their lives even as it brings people together. Ah, the irony that is 21st century computing.

Not much has changed for me since we last spoke. I'm still bartending at the Dram shop, watching too much TV, steering clear of finishing any screenplays and trying not to attack my pores in front of brightly lit mirrors. (If you haven't visited Dram shop, btw, get your ass to Brooklyn and see what you're missing.) Oh, you may have noticed that this website got a complete overhaul. I was weirdly motivated to fix it last night and stayed up until 7am doing so. (See, I have the ability to focus, I just don't know when it's going to happen.) Anyway, do you guys like the site? It's still a work in progress, but my code skills are way limited and Dreamweaver can only help me so much as I barely know how to use it.

There are lots of new pictures since I updated in August. Check them out on the photo gallery page if you are so inclined. Pics include weddings, birthdays, reunions, whiffle ball tournaments, Halloween, drunken riots...the works. If you are reading this blog entry there is a good chance you may be IN some of the pics, so beware.
